EMSSTAT paramedic turned McClain County Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) Coordinator β€” Heather Justine says her new role in Norman Regional's Health Promotion and Education department is her DREAM JOB! ✨🀩 Heather earned her paramedic hours at Norman Regional and worked on our EMSSTAT team for three years before going back to school to earn her degree in Public Health at the University of Central Oklahoma. "I became really passionate about Public Health during my paramedic time," said Heather. "I just wanted to do more whenever it came to helping people, and the paramedic life is a pretty hard life." When Heather saw the job opening for our TSET position, she said she knew it was time for her to return home to Norman Regional. Heather says she really believes in TSET's mission, to prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease, Oklahoma's leading causes of death. By awarding grants and funding research, TSET initiatives are creating healthier places for all Oklahomans to live, work, learn and play. Heather's passion for TSET stems from losing many family members to tobacco-related illnesses or diseases: "It's one of the great things that Oklahoma has done for the state. I wanted to be a part of it. I like what they do. I like their outreach." Since becoming a healer again, Heather says everyone has made her feel extremely welcome. She says it's the people who make up the health system that make it feel like "home". "I love Norman Regional and the growth mindset environment," said Heather. "Norman Regional puts a lot of hard work and dedication into their employees." Welcome home, Heather! We can't wait to see how you help improve the health outcomes of McClain County!
