Work Your Way Back to Better

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy intervention focuses on posture, locomotion, strength, endurance, cardiopulmonary function, balance, coordination, joint mobility, flexibility, pain control and activities of daily living. Locomotion training may include the use of orthotic, prosthetic or assistive devices, and we may aid your therapy with heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity, massage, mobilization and therapeutic exercise.

Education is an important part of each treatment plan. In particular, our physical therapists have been trained by a nationally recognized expert in care for temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and specially trained in care for lymphedema, swelling caused by inadequate flow of fluid through the lymphatic system.

Aquatic Therapy

Our center boasts a 40-by-20-foot saltwater pool for exercise that’s easier on the body, allowing for a quicker return to activity without overstressing healing tissues. The graded pressure from deeper to shallower water also helps blood flow to reduce swelling. Patients with back pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis and injuries benefit from aquatic therapy. After completing the initial program, you can participate in our monthly pool membership program and/or try an instructor-led aquatic arthritis class two or three days per week for improving strength, endurance and joint mobility.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling (DN) is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points (painful knots in muscles), tendons, ligaments, or near nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. Dry Needling can also be coupled with electrical current to further reduce pain for patients with appropriate conditions.

What is Dry Needling Effective For?

Evidence has shown dry needling can significantly decrease:

  • Headaches
  • Low-Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • TMJ (Jaw) Dysfunction
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Elbow pain (such as Tennis elbow)
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Shin Splints
  • Knee Pain
  • Post-surgical scar tissue pain
  • Osteoarthritis

How is DN different from acupuncture?

  • Dry Needling is research and evidence-based practice
  • Dry Needling is a modern, anatomy-based intervention for musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy maximizes independence for people with physical disabilities and helps prevent further disability. We’ll work with you on activities of daily living such as feeding and dressing; creating and fitting orthotics or splints; and teaching you how to use adaptive equipment. In particular, our occupational therapists are specifically trained in caring for patients with lymphedema.

Speech Therapy

Speech/language pathologists work with clients of all ages to treat conditions including:

  • Infant feeding aversions
  • Developmental delay
  • Dysphagia (swallowing disorder)
  • Speech/language disorders
  • Motor speech disorders
  • Fluency
  • Voice disorders
  • Cognitive impairments

VitalStim® therapy is available for the treatment of swallowing disorders secondary to stroke or other neurological conditions as well as from cancer and radiation treatment.

Hand Therapy

Our therapists, certified hand therapists, are experienced in the treatment of hand and upper-extremity dysfunction resulting from arthritis, injury or cumulative trauma. Hand therapists have extensive knowledge in orthotics fabrication for a variety of diagnoses, creating orthotics — or splints — for post-op surgical protection or immobilization, correction of injury or deformity, and conservative management of common upper extremity syndromes.

Sports Rehabilitation

Our therapists provide preventive and post-injury care for the recreational and competitive athlete. Acute injury care with a progressive strengthening and conditioning program is specifically designed to get the athlete back to the game as quickly and safely as possible while decreasing the risk of future injury.
