Congratulations to our Maternal Child team on becoming certified in Perinatal Care by The Joint Commission!
Norman Regional’s healers do everything in their power to ensure the health and safety of mothers and newborns. It takes a tremendous amount of work in quality improvement, best practice implementation, and measurement to achieve this certification.
World Obesity Day is not only about raising awareness and understanding the root causes of obesity, but also encouraging the public to become advocates for changing the way we address obesity across society. Our weight loss experts at Journey Clinic work to make the mission of World Obesity Day not something we highlight today, but every day.
Every Wednesday in March, we're bringing you a #WomensHistoryWednesday post about an important woman in healthcare.
Today, we discuss Florence Nightingale (1820-1910).
A British nurse, statistician and social reformer, she was the founder of modern nursing. She was a trailblazing figure in nursing who greatly affected 19th and 20th century policies around proper medical care. She and her team of nurses worked to improve the unsanitary hospital conditions in England which reduced the mortality rate. She is mostly known for making hospitals a cleaner and safer place to be.
March is #WomensHistoryMonth. Women’s History Month celebrates the contributions of women to history and society.
- March 3, 1913 – the National Woman’s Party (political group dedicated to women’s suffrage) was officially formed
- March 1, 1972 - Title IX passed by the Senate – prohibits sex discrimination in all federally funded education programs
- March 22, 1972 – The Equal Rights Amendment passed the Senate – a constitutional amendment which guarantees rights regardless of sex past those assured by the 19th amendment
- March 8 – International Women’s Day (founded 1981)
Every Wednesday in March we will be sharing a #WomensHistoryWednesday post about wonderful women in healthcare throughout history.
Today is #ZeroDiscriminationDay! Zero Discrimination Day promotes diversity and recognizes that everyone counts. This aims to combat all forms of discrimination. A butterfly is used as the symbol for the observation of this day because a butterfly is widely recognized as a sign of transformation. This day is observed to draw attention to the millions who still suffer from social and economic exclusion due to prejudice and intolerance. This day encourages all to #speakup and #preventdiscrimination from standing in the way of achieving ambitions, goals and dreams.
Norman Regional Health System is excited to announce the Norman City Council approved our plans to expand the HealthPlex hospital.
Now crews will begin preparing the existing HealthPlex hospital for construction, which involves temporarily moving its emergency and ambulance entrances and creating temporary parking lots. The hospital will remain open and continue to care for patients during the construction. The expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
